Ardell Granlund, 86, Silver Bay, died Friday, January 11, 2013, at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center of heart failure.
He was born February 26, 1926, to Arthur and Kate (Smith) on a farm near Milnor, North Dakota, graduated from Milnor High School, then served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. After the war he attended North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, earning a master electrician’s degree. He worked as an electrician in Montana and North Dakota for several years and returned to the Navy during the Korean War. He and Lorine Weickum were married on June 1, 1950, and they made their home in Silver Bay since 1956. Ardell was employed as an electrician at Reserve Mining Company for 30 years and was also an electrical inspector for the State of Minnesota for many years.
He was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed volunteering his service to help people with projects in their homes as well as gardening and planting trees.
Ardell was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lorine in 2004, a son-in-law Jim Janzen; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine and Jerry Johnson and Mary Ann and Herbert Bakers.
Ardell is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Thomas) Peters of Two Harbors, Beverly (Douglas) Ball of Glencoe, MN, Cindy (William) Brown of Silver Bay, and Diane Janzen of Beaver Bay; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: 10:30 until the 11:30 service on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery. To sign the online register book please visit www.cavallinfuneralhome.com.
