ANNIE CHRISTINA BERGMAN

Annie Christina Bergman passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

Annie was born to Paul and Christina (Lang) Ganser on May 19, 1926 in Ockstadt, Germany.

As a young girl, Annie, along with her older sister and two younger brothers, spent many happy days playing in the Ockstadt Castle courtyard and around the city tower. Annie attended German college, becoming a licensed beautician at age 16 and then, working and managing various salons until age 21 when she came to the United States. Although her entire teen years were during the war, it was World War II which brought Annie and Dean together. Engaged for two years, Dean and Annie were married in Two Harbors on Flag Day, June 14, 1947 and had, until Dean's death in 2001, 54 good years together.

Annie was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 4454 and a past member of the Women of the Moose, the Knife River Valley Club (Felix) and the Knife River Valley Friendship Club.

Annie was proud of completing Naturalization courses at Central High School, graduating and becoming a United States citizen in 1950. She took very seriously her responsibility of being a good citizen and tried to do good for others. Annie was an excellent cook, enjoyed polka, big band and classical music, dancing, and both indoor and outdoor gardening. Above all else, Annie loved her children and with greatest pride loved her grandchildren.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; brothers, Otmar and Franz; a young sister and baby brother.

Annie is survived by her children, Jo-Ann (David) Rossetter, Richard Bergman, Paul Bergman and Clyde (Carolyn) Bergman; grandchildren, Matthew (Laura) and Christina Rossetter, Reed, Jim, Sara and Jessica Bergman; sister Emilie Brum of Hosbach, Germany; and nieces and nephews, Edwin (Ursula and Andrea) Brum, Sylvia, Christine, Roswitha, Regina, Otmar, Jr., Mike, Roger, Gary and Kevin Ganser; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. memorial service, Saturday, Jan. 12 in the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
