Winnifred Ryan Arimond, 92, passed away Friday Jan. 4th, 2013 at the Benedictine Health Center on the Saint Scholastica college campus in Duluth.

Winnie was born in Duluth on May 9, 1920.

She attended Morgan Park high school, and graduated from Saint Scholastica College in 1943. In her early years she worked as a social worker with Girl Scouts of America and then Catholic Charities. On August 24, 1946 she married Ray after which they moved to Pine City where they raised their three children. In March 2001 she and Ray returned to the St. Scholastica college campus to live at Westwood Senior Living Apartments.

Her home was always a place of respite and fun for friends, neighbors and travelers alike. The Arimond home was always open and there was always-delicious sweet rolls or apple pie to be had. Over the 56 years they lived in the Pine City home, good-time stories, laughter and occasional sad stories were shared by one and all. It was simply a place where everyone looked forward to spending time. But, you had to be prepared for her Irish heritage because she could spin an entertaining story or two herself. Her stories brought comfort or laughter to many.

Those of us who knew her best will always remember most the heartfelt words of endearment she shared with whomever she met. Her words were always so sincere that it just made you feel 'Warm-all-over'. You might say her words of encouragement were the ultimate portrayal of the meaning of the word 'Friend.'

Winnifred is survived by her three children which include George and Beth Arimond (La Crosse, Wis.) and their son Mark, Sheila Arimond and Joel Cassingham (Hibbing, Minn.) and their two children Katy and Patrick, and Tim and Anne Arimond (Saint Louis Park, Minn.) and their three children David, Richard, Jean and husband John Fitzer. Winnifred is also survived by her sisters, Frances Kozarek (twin sister) and Mary Kay O'Connell.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond G. Arimond and her parents Dr. William and Julia Ryan of Duluth.

VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7 in the Dougherty Funeral Home with rosary at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Jan. 8, in Benedictine Health Center Chapel at 10 a.m. and the burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery.
