Kenneth A. Akkanen, 77, longtime Marble resident, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 in the University Medical Center – Mesabi, Hibbing.

Kenneth A. Akkanen, 77, longtime Marble resident, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 in the University Medical Center – Mesabi, Hibbing.

He was born Sept. 19, 1935 in Grand Rapids, he was the son of August and Ellen (Korvola) Akkanen.

Ken was a 1954 graduate of Greenway High School, had attended the Marble United Methodist Church, and lived most of his life in Marble. Ken and Jane “Blondie” Anderson were married on Oct. 5, 1963 in Marble.

His parents, August and Ellen Akkanen and a sister, Helen Akkanen preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, “Blondie”; a son, Todd Akkanen of Marble; grandchildren, Karley and Ryan Akkanen; a sister, Helga Regan of Duluth; and two nieces, Cindy Haugen and Yvonne Venier, both of Rochester, Minn.

VISITATION: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 in the Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine and will continue from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 in the Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine.
