Leslie Joseph Matvey, 67, of Hibbing, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012 at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids

Leslie was born Dec. 8, 1945 in Duluth, to Joseph and Alice (Turnboom) Matvey.

He grew up and attended school in Elmer and Toivola/Meadowlands. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. Following his honorable discharge Leslie worked for Island Farm Creamery where he met Jeanette Powell. They were married on July 2, 1972 in Meadowlands. They lived in Elmer until moving to Toivola in 1979. He worked at Minntac for over 20 years, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his grandchildren and his coffee.

Leslie was preceded in death by his parents; baby sister; and wife, Jeanette.

Survivors include one daughter Bonita (Mike) Swift of Anoka; two sons Kevin (Stacy Masog) Matvey of Hibbing Jason (Leah) Matvey of Toivola; eight grandchildren Skyler Preston, Michael Swift, Aiden Swift, Daniel Masog, Torrance Matvey, Olive Matvey, Jacob Matvey and Viola Matvey; one sister JoAnn Bock of Hibbing; two brothers Len (Esther Mae) Matvey of Meadowlands Walter (Kathy) Matvey of Floodwood; special friend Rose Anderson of Chisholm; numerous nieces and nephews.

SERVICE: 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 in the Range Funeral Home in Hibbing. Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Range Funeral Home in Hibbing and from 10 to the 11 a.m. service on Monday. Pastor Lyle Northey will officiate. Military Rites accorded by V.F.W. Post 8510. Burial will be at the Toivola Cemetery. Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home in Hibbing.
