Vienna Alma (Uksila) Nikula, 93, of Floodwood passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 in her home.

Vienna Alma (Uksila) Nikula, 93, of Floodwood passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 in her home.

She was born Jan. 18, 1919 in Duluth to Isaac and Mary (Kaijankoski) Uksila.

Vienna moved to Brimson with her parents as an infant. She attended St. Louis County School No. 55 in Brimson and graduated in 1936 from Duluth Central High School. She graduated from Duluth Business University and was employed at the Floodwood Co-op Creamery Association office for several years. During World War II she moved to Detroit, Mich., where she was employed by Ford Motor Company in Dearborn and later at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, Penn.

Vienna married Eugene Nikula in Harrisburg, Penn., on March 15, 1944 while he was stationed in Lebanon, Penn., during World War II. After the war they moved back to Floodwood. Besides raising their family with her husband, she was employed at the St. Louis County Auditor’s office in the Duluth County Court House for over six years. She was City Treasurer of Floodwood for three terms and served as Secretary of the Board of Directors of Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet for 12 years.

Vienna was a charter member of Floodwood Town & Country Women’s Club, a member of Floodwood American Legion Auxiliary, and served on the Floodwood Fair Assn. Board. She enjoyed bowling in her earlier years and gardening.

Vienna was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene.

She is survived by her daughters, Loretta Nikula of Floodwood and Barbara (Ron) Nikula- Owens of Maplewood; son, Ronald of Floodwood; three grandchildren, Jeanette (Eric) Lahm of Cranberry Township, Penn., Michelle (Mike) Owens Eppler of Fort Collins, Colo., and Jim Owens of Maplewood; four great grandchildren, Ellie, Keegan and Noah Lahm, and Addie Eppler.

VISITATION: 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Van Buren Township.
