Edythe Hulda Erkkila, 91, of Hibbing, Minn. passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012 at Hillcrest Alice in Hibbing.
Edythe Hulda Erkkila, 91, of Hibbing, Minn., passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012 at Hillcrest Alice in Hibbing.
Edythe was born March 5, 1921 to Victor and Hulda (Korpinen) Tanttu in Shaw, Minn.
She grew up in Shaw and graduated from Cotton High School in 1938 as valedictorian.
She married Clifford Erkkila on Nov. 10, 1939.
Edythe loved to travel and had been to all of the lower 48 states. She also traveled to Finland twice to see her relatives. She loved gardening and sewing. She was an active member of the Faith United Church in Christ.
Edythe was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford, brothers, Leo and Tauno Tanttu; and sister, Helvi Barber.
Survivors include three children Clifton Erkkila of Hibbing, Ron Erkkila of Cloquet, Lynda (Tom Johnson) Erickson of Side Lake; four grandchildren Chad Erkkila, Wayde Erkkila, Holly (Doug) Martin, Heather (Jared) Lubben; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, in Range Funeral Home in Hibbing with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Pastor Dan Erickson will officiate.
