WILLIAM JOHN DUNCAN

William John Duncan passed away Sept. 23, 2012 at his home in Duluth.

William John Duncan passed away Sept. 23, 2012 at his home in Duluth.

He was born on June 11, 1941 to George and Ena Duncan in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

He served in the USAF from 1960 to 1964 in Duluth and shortly thereafter graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Sacramento State University.

Minnesota’s forests, fields and streams called him back to start his family. Bill started his own real estate company, Duncan Realty, actively invested in income properties and also managed the office and credit department at Lincoln Stores for over 30 years.

His love of hunting and fishing brought him all over the United States and Canada and he personally trained two champion retrievers that were dear to his heart. Bill loved blues music and would dance till the wee hours, work on real estate or rentals on the weekends and then go dancing again Saturday night.

After retirement, Bill enjoyed spending winters in Florida and Arizona where he could stroll the beaches, hike the foothills and walk the golf courses.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Marilyn; children, Troy (Jennifer) Duncan of Roseville, Minn., Paula (Steven) Harker of Spotsylvania, Vir., David (Lori) Pollock of Superior, Wis.; brothers Robert (Patricia) Duncan and Donald (Dorothy) Duncan; sisters Winnifred Brandshaw and Dorothy (John) Burd; along with his grandchildren (Zach, Lauren, Duncan, Quinn, David, Brooklyn & Chloe).

Bill’s family would like to say a special thank you to the family, friends and Essentia staff who supported him throughout his illness. Bill will be sadly missed.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Oct. 5, 2012 IN Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy., Hermantown, MN 55811 with visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Military Honors will be accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.
