Gladys E. Stanaway, 95, of Eveleth passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at the Virginia Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Gladys E. Stanaway, 95, of Eveleth passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at the Virginia Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born on Aug. 21, 1917 in Biwabik to Emil and Emma (Johanson) Peterson and graduated from Biwabik High School in 1935.
Gladys had been an Eveleth resident since 1948 and for many years managed the Gamble's Store in Eveleth. She was a member of the Eveleth United Methodist Church.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dudley on May 13, 1999; grandson Bryan Stanaway; brothers, Arthur, Elmer, Hugo and Edward; sisters, Ruth, Esther and Dorothy.
She is survived by her sons, Bruce "Doc" (Kathleen) Stanaway of Eveleth and Danny (Janet) Stanaway of Cloquet; grandchildren, Kelly (Josh) Dale of Woodbury, Scott (Gina Uhrbom) Stanaway of Eden Prairie, and Paul Stanaway of Northfield; sister-in-law Anita Semich of Rapid City, SD; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and her dear friend Margaret Filipovich.
SERVICE: 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 in the United Methodist Church in Eveleth with Pastor Mickey Olson officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be at the Eveleth Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Landmark Funeral Home of Virginia.
