Lillian was born in Montreal, Wis., to Ida and Victor Elonen on Nov. 3, 1914.
She was three years old when her family moved to Iron River, Wis. Lillian moved to Duluth when she was 16 to further her education. Lillian attended East High School and then Duluth Central High School, graduating the first of four generations from Central High School. She attended State Teacher's College and then married Wayne Kovero on Feb. 16, 1935. They celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Lillian and her husband owned and operated for many years Kovero Jewelers in Duluth. She enjoyed her family, her church and life in Duluth. Lillian was a member of Kenwood Lutheran Church for 65 years, its Dorcas Circle and the Kenwood Lutheran Church Quilters. She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 25, AARP and Young at Heart.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wayne; brothers William and Toivo Elonen; sisters Aileen Martin and Gertrude Erickson.
Lillian is survived by her daughter Karla (B. Britton) Payne of Duluth; grandchildren Mary Lynn (Michael) Benko of Duluth; Robert Payne (Paul Snyder) of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren Krista and Anna Benko of Duluth and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the professional caring staff at Spirit Valley Assisted Living. Lillian lived a full life and will be dearly missed. The family appreciates Dr. Craig Gilbertson for all his years of caring for Lillian and the attentive care she received by the St. Lukes Hospice staff.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 in Kenwood Lutheran Church, 2720 Meyers, Duluth. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Jarvi Dowd Funeral Home. Burial at Park Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Kenwood Lutheran Church.

One of the lovliest, kindest and very dear ladies......many of us have ever known. :Lil enjoyed a long and blessed life with the most caring and supportive immediate family any person could ever enjoy.
