Winifred was born on March 5, 1925 to Ada and Winfield Heffernan in Duluth, where she grew up with sisters Lorraine and Carol.
She completed secretarial school at Duluth Junior College. Winnie met David Manz in college and they were married from 1948 until 1988. After David completed his engineering degree at the University of Minnesota, he and Winnie lived in Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, and Indiana, finally settling in Michigan in 1964. She worked in her early adult years as a secretary, but spent most of her life as a homemaker, caring for her family.
Winnie enjoyed traveling, collectables, cooking, baking, entertaining and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her final pleasant years were spent at Brookdale Assisted Living in Ann Arbor (with great appreciation to the staff there).
Winnie is survived by sons David, Charles (Karen), and Michael (Carolyn), and seven grandchildren.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at Oneota Cemetery as she always loved Duluth and were her wishes.
