Lois M. Shabatura, 91 of Duluth, died, Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.
Lois M. Shabatura, 91 of Duluth, died, Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.
She was born on July 18, 1920 in Minneapolis, to Sietze and Marie (Sherman) deWaard.
Lois graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis and the U of M where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She married Eugene H. Shabatura Oct. 17, 1942 in Boys Town, Neb., and they moved to Duluth in 1951.
Lois' employment included, a proof reader and binder at Stewart-Taylor Printing, Bookkeeper at Pierson Paint and a teller at First American Bank.
Lois was a member of the Duluth Kennel Club, life member of Twin Ports Dog Training Club, League of Women Voters, Park Point Community Club, a Board member of Blood Donors, Inc., Duluth Preservation Alliance, the Duluth Area Postal Customer Advisory Council, POW Auxiliary, the Bong Museum book club and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene "Shab" in 1994; parents, Sietze on Aug. 16, 1990 and Marie on Sept. 5, 1990 and her brother, Sietze deWaard, Jr. on Sept, 19, 2001.
Survivors include her sister, Patricia James of Edmonds, Wash.; foster daughter Rosemary Chapel of Vaugh, Mont.; her dog, Molly; nieces and nephews and many dear caring friends who have been so helpful over the years.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 10 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2012 in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral in the church. Interment at Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Animal Allies or the Duluth Public Library.
