Dorothy June Oman peacefully passed away with her family present Friday, June 22, 2012, at the age of 89. Dorothy Olson was born June 3, 1923, in Cambridge, Minn. Her parents, Andrew and Margaret (Becklin) Olson, brought the family to Duluth, Minn., in the 1930s. Dorothy graduated from Denfeld High School in 1942. She met her husband, Earl Oman, from Grandy, Minn., while spending the summer with her dear cousins on the homestead farm in Cambridge. They wrote love letters for two years while Earl was serving in the Army during WWII and was stationed in Hawaii. After his return, Dorothy and Earl wed on June 29, 1946, and settled in Proctor in 1951. They had three boys, Leroy, Frank and Gordon. Dorothy and Earl were blessed with many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. They spent 61 years in their home in Proctor, just recently moving to Keystone Bluffs in Duluth.

Throughout the years Dorothy had many interests, hobbies, and adventures. Besides gardening with Earl, Dorothy loved crafts and cooking. Dorothy would spin wool on Earl’s homemade spinning wheels. She knit beautiful gifts for family and friends. She was an exceptional cook, creating traditional Swedish dishes that delighted her family. She had an adventurous spirit, which included traveling the world. Her favorite place was Sweden, the land of her ancestors. She loved genealogy, where she spent thousands of hours unraveling the mysteries of the family. Dorothy LOVED cats, always providing a warm home for one or two.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Earl Oman; her three boys, Leroy (Paula), Frank (Peg), and Gordon; her five grandchildren, Brian (Judy), Lynette (Phil) Krampf, Andy, Matthew, and Becky; and her six great-grandchildren, Mitch, Jill, Brilee, Dillon, Amanda and Samantha. She is also survived by her sister Doris (Henry) Eggers and many beloved cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Burt and Denny; sister, Muriel; two daughters-in-law, Evie and Marsha.

Please join us in celebrating Dorothy’s life Tuesday, June 26, at Williams Lobermeier Funeral Home, 3208 W. 3rd St., Duluth, MN. Visitation at 10 a.m., services at 11 a.m., and lunch following at the Harrison Community Club 3002 W. 3rd. St. Duluth. Interment to follow.

To the family of Dorothy Oman: I had the occasion to meet Dorothy and Earl around 2006 when a cousin from Sweden put us in touch regarding our Bogglofva ancestors in Dalarna, Sweden. I knew from the first email I received from her that she was a special person. She was so warm and friendly and made feel as though I had known her all my life. We only had one chance to meet in person. She and Earl were so willing to share their information with me and even made copies of old pictures for me. I will never forget their generosity. I am so sad to hear of her passing but I know she had a good life with family and many friends. I'm happy to remember her always as my "cousin." Linda Sathre (great-great granddaughter of Kerstin Persdotter Rask, sister of Andrew and John Grant)
