ALICE ELISABELLE (CARLSON) SJODING

Alice Elisabelle (Carlson) Sjoding died Thursday, June 21, 2012, in Golden Oaks Assisted Living.

She was born in Omaha, Neb., May 16, 1915, to Carl Wendell and Mabel (Meleen) Carlson. She worked as a private secretary for Nebraska Power Co. Alice married J. Donald Sjoding MD in 1943.

She was a P.E.O. member, a member of various garden clubs, a lifelong Lutheran and a former member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais, Lutsen Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minn.

Alice had a passion for gardening and identifying wildflowers and birds. She was an active community volunteer all of her adult life.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Marlin and Chester Carlson; and a sister Irene Carlson.

Alice is survived by her husband of 69 years, J. Donald Sjoding MD; son Carl (Patricia) Sjoding; daughters Donna (Stan) Amidon of Minneapolis and Carol (Scott) Custead of Johnstown, Pa.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

The family would like to thank Golden Oaks for their compassionate care of Alice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

VISITATION: 12 noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, June 26, in Dougherty Funeral Home. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Grand Marais.
