James Henry Denis McAuliffe, 84, of Duluth passed away June 6, 2012.
Jim was born in Chicago, Ill., on April 9, 1928 to Mary Katherine O'Neil and Denis McAuliffe.
From the ages of three to 10 Jim lived in Albion, Mich. He attended Barbour Hall in Kalazmoo, Mich., for grade school and Campion High School in Prairie DeSheen, Wis. While attending Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., he met the love of his life Kathleen Petrolle, they were married on Aug. 3, 1949 and together they raised their family in the Woodland area of Duluth.
He enlisted in the 1st Calvary of the U.S. Army and served as the youngest Platoon Sergeant in Japan until 1947.
He finished his schooling at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, earning an Architectural Engineering degree. He served as president of St. John's PTA. Jim became a member of the Knights of Columbus in 1950, was a Fourth Degree and achieved the position of State Master in 1984-86.
Jim worked as Vice President of Petrolle's Religious Goods. When his in-laws Antoinette and William Petrolle retired, he continued to run the business, serving the area churches with their needs. He became the president of EMG, a Church Goods Guild.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Mary Katherine O'Neil (Feb. 28, 1989) and Denis McAulifee (1938); his wife of 61 years Kathleen (Aug. 25, 2010); his in-laws Antoinette (Rich) and William Petrolle; two sons-in-law Howard Yaskal (2004) and Charles Marciniak (2004).
He is survived by his four children: daughters, Maureen Yaskal, Eileen Marciniak; sons, Patrick (Debbie) McAuliffe, Kevin (Mary) McAuliffe; grandchildren, Jonathan Yaskal, Jessica (Russell) Menendez, Breanna McAuliffe, Amy (Jeff) DeMers, Denis McAuliffe and Mathew Marciniak; great grandchildren, Joseph Yaskal, Benjamin Yaskal, Shawn McAuliffe, Abbegail Mendenez, Joshua Menendez, Sophia DeMers and Drew DeMers.
Jim had a full life filled with many close and dear friends.
The family would like to thank the St. Luke's Hospice people for their care and assistance during this final time in Jim's life.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012 in Lakeshore's Elsing Chapel. Rosary will be recited at 1 p.m.
