Norman Wesley (Wes) Thompson, 84, of Grand Rapids, Minn.

Norman Wesley (Wes) Thompson, 84, of Grand Rapids, Minn., died on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids.

Wes was born in 1927 to Vivien and Clara Thompson in Bristol, S.D.

He was united in marriage on Sept. 1, 1951 to Margaret Harvey in Minnetonka Mills, Minn. They resided in Grand Rapids where they raised beef cattle and, later, Wes became an Operating Engineer in the 49er's. He worked as a heavy equipment operator on road construction sites and pipelines around the country for many years.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Margaret.

He is survived by his two daughters, Brenda (Malcom) Nelson of Pensacola, Fla., and Susan (Jeffri) Schrunk of Grand Rapids, Minn.; one son, Mike (Linda) Thompson of Grand Rapids, Minn.; three grandchildren, Jonathan Howard, Kristine (Ronald) Saxton, and Jeffrey Schrunk; and one great-grandchild, Kaydince Saxton.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, Minn. Rev. Larry Quanbeck will officiate. Burial will be at Harris Cemetery, Harris Township, Minn.
