Lionel James "Bud" McTighe, 90 passed away at home on May 15, 2012, under the care of his family and Hospice.
Bud was born on June 23, 1921 to Michael and Lily (Swanson) McTighe.
He was a lifelong resident of Duluth. After his schooling, Bud spent time working at a CCC camp along the Gunflint Trail. He served his country in the U.S. Army and during World War II was deployed to the South Pacific. Bud married Julia Becotte on Sept. 4, 1948. They were married 62 years.
Bud worked for North American Van Lines for many years. After his retirement he continued to work part-time for Ken Page Trucking, driving buses for Cathedral, and as a security guard at Enger Golf Course. Bud loved playing golf and creating art out of scrap wood. He made many special gifts for his children and grandchildren. Bud was an excellent cribbage player. He also enjoyed playing pool. Every spring Bud would plant vegetables with hopes of success in the cold Duluth weather.
He loved watching the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. He also enjoyed reading. He loved chatting with everybody he met. A very special time for Bud was spent with his family. He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, wife Julia; sons Martin, Daniel, and James; sisters Lily Ducek and Kathleen Moran; daughter in-law Kathleen McTighe; and son in-law Bryan Anderson.
He is survived by son John, Duluth; daughters Colleen (Karl) Rybeck, Falmouth, Maine, Susan (James) Natwick, Twin Valley, Minn., Katie (Paul) Schilling, Duluth, Mary Anderson, Duluth; grandchildren Tanya (Brent) Rogers, Jessi Mickelson, Tom Natwick, Raylene Natwick, Ben Rybeck, Greg Anderson; great-grandchildren Nathan, Audrey, and Viviane Mickelson, Tighe and Deacon Rogers; and brother-in-law Tom (Marie) Becotte, Anoka, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11 a.m. Monday May 21, at Park Hill Cemetery Duluth.
