JOHN STEVE MENDESH

John Steve Mendesh died peacefully Easter morning, April 8, 2012.

John Steve Mendesh died peacefully Easter morning, April 8, 2012.

A lifelong resident of West Duluth, John was a graduate of Denfeld High School and Class President 1945, a Navy veteran and a member of the Carpenter's Union. He passionately followed the Boston Red Sox and UMD Bulldogs, but his true love was for his family and neighbors. Whether it was watching his grandchildren play ball, snowplowing the neighbor's walks (knighted the "Snow Angel" by the local media), or telling stories about growing up on Raleigh Street, he did so with an undying enthusiasm, a playful spirit and a sense of feeling blessed in life and wanting to share that with others. He worked hard every day to not only provide for his family, but to emulate his own father's great model as a father and a man.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Mathew, and his sister Ann

He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, his four children and 12 grandchildren: John (Judy) and children Emily, Elizabeth and Jack; Mary (Jim) and children Jennifer, James, and Daniel; Susan (Terry) and son Neil; and Jim (Julie) and children Erica, Abigail, and Joseph, and step-children Casandra and Carston Olson; seven great-grandchildren: Camden, Jalen, Maliya, Madeline, Gracen, Elin and Charles; a brother, Tony (Kay), and sisters Kathryn, Mary and Mildred.

The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Eligius and Nurses That Care, and all the many friends and family who visited him and provided love and support in his final days. Memorials can be made to The Minnesota Evans Scholarship Foundation, c/o the Minnesota Golf Association, 6550 York Ave S Ste 211, Edina, MN 55435, or to the loving community of faith at Norton Park Methodist Church, 8409 Bessemer St, Duluth MN 55807.

SERVICE: 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11 in Norton Park Methodist Church with a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. A private interment will be held at Oneota Cemetery.

I just wanted to send my deepest sympathy to you and your family. We use to live across the street from you and enjoyed many conversations as we were growing up. Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all Love Michele LaVine(Caspersen) and Family

Carol and Family, so sorry to hear about John's passing. I can remember seeing him sit out in front of the house and remember watching him trim the hedges and trees. Vicky (Caspersen) Behrman & Caspersen Family
