Betty Eileen Monsaas, 87, passed away at Edgewood Vista in Duluth on March 27, 2012.
Betty was born to Earl and Margaret Bolton on Feb. 2, 1925. She grew up in Duluth, along with her brothers and sisters.
As a young woman, she worked as a telephone operator. After raising her children, she was a financial worker for many years for the St. Louis County Social Service Department.
Betty loved to spend time crocheting, doing crossword puzzles and cooking and baking for her family. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. She had many friends at Edgewood Vista and especially enjoyed the last year of her life with her special friend, Conrad Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sig; her parents; brothers John, Floyd and Donald; sister June Johnson; and great-granddaughter, Cora Dahlgren.
She is survived by her children, Diane (Gray Williamson), Patricia (David) Dahlgren, Steven (Mary Engel), Carol (Steve) Kunze, and Julie (Jim) Taylor; sister Donna (Richard) Koglin; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at Essentia Health, especially nurse Leah, and Essentia Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion during our mother's illness and to the staff and residents at Edgewood Vista for their kind words and support during this difficult time. Also, a special thank you to Katherine.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. April 5, until the 11 a.m. memorial service in Trinity Lutheran Church, 1108 E. 8th St., Duluth, Reverend Jerome Evavold officiating. Private graveside inurnment at Park Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society, 130 W. Superior St., Suite 200, Duluth, MN 55802.

So many wonderful childhood memories! I am thankful Betty attended an event recently which reunited some of us from the old neighborhood...she told me I went over to her house one day and sat on her lap and we snuggled for awhile...such a nice person along with the rest of her family.Minneapolis, MN 04/03/2012 2:07 PM
