Allan (Al) Edward Fosness, 71 of Alborn, MN, died surrounded by family on March 28, 2012 in Essentia Health Hospice after a short battle with Lung Cancer.
Born in Duluth, MN on March 6, 1941 to Jake and Cecelia Fosness, Al graduated from Cathedral High School in 1960; where he met the love of his life Carole Jean Sertich. They were married September 30, 1961 and had five children. Al was a Painter and Painting Contractor for 35 years and the Manager of Installation and Construction Operations at O'Day Equipment for 10 years. He retired in 2003 to continue his life's passion "Carpentry". Al continually volunteered for the community of Alborn, MN, as he wanted to make it better place for everyone to raise their children. Some of Al's favorite things to do were to spend time in his garage solving all worldly problems, Mowing his large yard including his "Green Acres Golf Course", Rides on his Ranger around Maple Lake on quiet evenings with Carole, Pontoon rides around Maple Leaf Lake and spending winters in Mission, Texas. Al's true passion was his family; when he talked about them he had a twinkle in his eye. He will be deeply missed by all that had the privilege to have met him.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ken; grandson, Kyle Allan Nesgoda; and mother-in-law, Virginia Sertich.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carole; children, Brenda Snickers (Brad) Alborn, MN, Debi Nesgoda (Dan) Forest Lake, MN, David (Ann) Hermantown, MN, Jodi Gaul (Mark) Meadowlands, MN and Tim (Shannon) Alborn, MN; grandchildren, Cody and Drew Anderson, Nick and Lindsey Nesgoda, Melissa Morse (Scott), Brian Fosness, Owen, Jamie, and Peter Gaul, Caelen, Danna, Jake, Gracie, Joey, Josh and Aleksander Fosness; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler and Madelyn Morse and Ahnaleah Anderson; sisters, Maureen McLachlan and Helen Atkinson; father-in-law, Mark Sertich; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. We want to thank the Neuro Trauma ICU Team, Oncology Unit Nurses, and Hospice Staff at St. Mary's Hospital for all their wonderful care, a special thank you to Shelly for her spiritual guidance and support. The family would also like to thank everyone for their continued thoughts and prayers.

Dear Carol, Cynthia, Jim and families, It is sad to read of your great loss. Take comfort in knowing Al no longer suffers that awful disease. Maple Lake has lost a mighty advocate but his spirit will always be felt. God Bless you all and grant you peace from your many lasting memories.
