Trudy Fredericks and her husband, Ryan Murphy, prepare dinner in the North Shore home they’re living in while they await the fate of their own home. They had spent three years building a house in Duluth’s Fond du Lac neighborhood and were planning to move in July 1. After the June flood, their home was condemmed by the city because of the threat of mudslides from the hill behind the house, a risk that wasn’t recognized until after the flood.
