The state of Minnesota owns the Great Lakes Aquarium and the city of Duluth covers a portion of its debt, but under a bill proposed by Rep. Roger Reinert that debt would be forgiven and ownership transferred to the University of Minnesota Duluth. Reinert?s hope is that UMD would use the aquarium for research, as well as maintain its tourism aspect. (2008 file / News Tribune)
