60 below in Tower


Kathy Hoppa, pink-faced from the cold, witnessed a state record of 60 below zero at her National Weather Service weather station in rural Tower on February 2, 1996. She's holding an egg that she left in the weather instruments' shelter overnight. It froze solid, and she then tossed it around like a ball with her friends. (Bob King / News-Tribune)
