The 2006 Christmas tree at the Wisconsin state Capitol in Madison humbly originated from the forests of Douglas County. Taxpayers of the county generously donated the tree, along with its related harvesting and transportation costs, to brighten the holiday season at the Capitol. Douglas County supervisors and the Douglas County Forestry Department donated the tree even after the Wisconsin Legislature passed and Gov. Doyle signed the Montgomery Bill in 2005.
