Obama, GOP appeal to public with budget deadline Monday

As Senate leaders worked feverishly behind closed doors to avert a looming fiscal cliff, President Obama on Saturday implored lawmakers to strike a deal that would prevent taxes from rising on the middle class and lay a foundation for the economy to grow and reduce the deficit.
