John B. Cheple, 91, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 in Duluth.

John B. Cheple, 91, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 in Duluth.

He was born in Duluth on Oct. 7, 1921 to Louis and Anna M. (Rindo) Cheple.

John was a graduate of Duluth Central High School. He was a World War II Army veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and Crossing of the Rhine. He was briefly captured by Germany and released as the Allies advanced. John was an entrepreneur, businessman, outdoorsman and a devoted family member. He was a great storyteller with a legion of anecdotes, jokes and stories always at the ready. As an outdoorsman, John was a lover of all creatures, great and small; even the deer that annually devastated his prized garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Louis; and sister Anne.

John is survived by his sister Peggy Matthews of New York; nephews Mark (Marilou) Cheple of St. Paul, and Craig (Laurel) Cheple of Bloomington, Minn.; and niece Christine (Dwaine) Goforth of Stockton, Calif.
