Minnesota progressed toward better statewide health in a number of areas last year, according to the annual Minnesota Health Care Quality Report.

In its ninth year, the report is presented by MN Community Measurement, a nonprofit agency, to compare the performances of clinics and medical groups across the state in treating 19 conditions.

In a news release, the agency said improved rates of treatment in 2012 compared with 2011 meant healthier lives for hundreds and even thousands of Minnesotans in a variety of areas.

Compared to the previous year, there were:

  • Almost 41,000 more Minnesota residents screened for colorectal cancer.

  • 2,100 more with diabetes achieving optimal management of their condition, reducing the risk of complications.

  • 3,600 more children up to date with vaccinations in “Combination 3,” which includes polio, measles and chicken pox.

  • 955 more Minnesotans with depression who showed significant progress in six months.

  • 735 more with depression who are in remission within six months.

  • 145 more children who were prescribed ADHD medication and had a face-to-face follow-up visit with a provider within the recommended 30-day time frame.
