  • Zalk-Josephs Co., Duluth steel fabricating firm, announced yesterday it has been awarded two contracts totaling more than $3 million for a Michigan iron mining expansion. The contracts are for the Empire Mines project of the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Co.

  • Duluth’s plan to change the Minnesota law requiring the state auditor to examine the city’s books drew strong criticism yesterday from State Auditor Mark Dayton. Mayor Gary Doty said the city hopes to save money by hiring a private auditing firm.

  • A bill introduced yesterday in the Minnesota Senate by Sen. Florian Chmielewski would require cemeteries to bury bodies in the winter for families willing to pay the extra cost. Some cemeteries store bodies until the ground thaws in the spring.
