KATHLEEN MARIE INDIHAR BROOME

Kathleen Marie Indihar Broome, beloved wife of William A. Broome, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Baptist Medical Center.

She was born in Duluth, the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence Indihar.

She graduated from Denfeld High School and St. Catherine's University in Minnesota. She met and married the love of her life of nearly 50 years in Miami, Fla. After moving to Columbia, S.C., she graduated with highest honors with a Master of Education from Columbia College.

Mrs. Broome was an elementary school educator for 43 years, teaching in Racine, Wis.; Miami, Fla.; and Columbia, S.C. In Columbia, she taught fourth and fifth grade gifted students in Richland School District One at John P. Thomas Elementary School, Hopkins Elementary School, and Bradley Elementary School. She impacted many with her passion for teaching.

Mrs. Broome was a member of Saint Peter's Catholic Church. She was a loving mother, doting grandmother, and absolute hub of her family. She loved traveling with her family, enjoying many trips throughout the United States and Europe. Her infectious laugh and good humor will be sorely missed.

Surviving are her husband, William Augustus Broome; her daughter, Dr. Ann-Marie Broome of Mount Pleasant; her son, Kelley Joseph Broome of Columbia; and daughter and son-in-law, Amber Leigh and Bondy Ott of Lexington; granddaughters and grandson, Ashleigh Taylor, Autumn Marie, and Richard Colyn Ott of Lexington; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Luana Indihar and niece, Dionne Indihar of West Palm Beach, Fla.

VIGIL: 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 in Dunbar Funeral Home, on Devine Street, Columbia, S.C. Mass service will be held in Saint Peter's Catholic Church on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Elmwood Cemetery. A reception will follow burial services at Saint Peter's Catholic Church, Neglia Hall. Memorials may be made to Lung Cancer Research Foundation, 845 Third Avenue, 6th Floor, New York NY 10022.
