  • The Duluth City Council yesterday approved a water rate increase that will cost homeowners an average of 30 cents a month on their water bills. The increase was needed because of the higher cost of electricity to pump water at Lakewood.

  • Some members of the Duluth City Council yesterday talked about banning snowmobiles from the city if current problems persist. Councilman Henry Royer said the snowmobile situation has deteriorated in his district and he has received many complaints from his constituents.

  • KBJR-TV Channel 6 yesterday implemented a drastic restructuring that resulted in the layoffs of seven employees. Beginning Jan. 18, KBJR will replace its 10 p.m. news show with about seven minutes of local news and weather followed by reruns of “Roseanne.”

  • Filming for “Iron Will” doesn’t officially begin until next week, but movie crews are expected to begin shooting a few scenes today. The movie will eventually be filmed in downtown Duluth, Superior, Two Harbors and at Gooseberry Falls State Park.
