Herbert G. “Herb” Jensen, 85, longtime resident of Duluth passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013.

He was born Oct.r 4, 1927 at St. Luke’s Hospital, in Duluth, to George and Sylvia Jensen.

Herb was a graduate of Denfeld High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was wounded in the war and received a Purple Heart.

After the service Herb attended business school. He then went on to various occupations. Herb worked at the Post Office in Duluth. He then went out west and was part owner/operator of Service Papers and was an Arthur Murray dance instructor. Herb also ranched in British Columbia. On Dec. 18, 1973 Herb married Karen Anderson.

In the late 60’s, Herb settled back in Duluth and purchased the Duluth Family Sauna because it was so helpful to his injuries from the war. He and his wife have been running it ever since.

Herb enjoyed being up at the cabin, that he built with the help of his entire family. He liked fishing, 4 wheeling, bird hunting and just being with nature and his friends. Herb also kept busy fixing and remodeling their home and the sauna. Don’t say you don’t like a wall somewhere because he’d move it.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, John Perovich.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen “Kadie”; children, Janice (Rev. Ed) Sorenberger, Dan Helm, Patricia Hale and Denise Jensen; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends in Minnesota and on the west coast.

Thanks go to Dr. Paul Sanford, St. Luke’s Home Care, Home Instead and St. Luke’s Hospice.

VISITATION: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 9, and Thursday, Jan. 10, from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service all in First Memorial Chapel, 4100 Grand Avenue--
