Eh? Candy conversion

It’s almost like a mythological place.

One day a year, a candy store springs to life in the Depot on Michigan Street in Duluth.

The Grambsch family will have a reunion today at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in the Depot’s lower level, celebrating by making candy the old-fashioned way. It’s the 30th consecutive year for the event.

It’s a revival of the Grambsch Family Candy store, which operated in Loyal, Wis., until 1981. When it closed, the contents were moved to Duluth. On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, family members arrive to make batches of candy canes, ribbons and bows and hard sticks of peppermint, anisette, clove and cinnamon.

The kitchen opens at 10 a.m. Free samples are included with regular Depot admissions, the railroad museum tells us.
