  • Six area colleges have organized themselves into the Lake Superior Association of Colleges and Universities. Member schools are UMD and the College of St. Scholastica, the University of Wisconsin-Superior, Lakehead University of Thunder Bay, Northland College and Mount Senario College of Ladysmith.

  • New facilities for the United Day Activity Center of Duluth are under construction at the former Co-op shopping complex at Central Entrance and East Ninth Street. The project will cost $400,000 and should be completed by Jan. 1, 1973.

  • Eveleth Mines will eliminate an undetermined number of jobs in connection with a mid-November shutdown, officials said yesterday. The taconite company, which employs 770 people on the Iron Range, will cut capacity from 5.4 million tons to 4 million tons.

  • The Duluth Clinic plans to build a 60,000-square-foot addition onto the Second Street side of its existing building, Dr. Phil Eckman, president of the board of directors, said yesterday. The $22 million expansion will make room for about 32 additional doctors.
