Reader's view: Anti-smoking ads are hard to put a finger on
I have never known any one of these people to lose a finger or toe, let alone a leg, due to smoking.
Lately I’ve seen an ad on television trying to scare people to not smoke. I am 75 years old, and I smoked for 25 years, starting when I entered the military.
When I was growing up, both of my parents smoked, most of my aunts and uncles smoked, and most of the friends of my relatives and most of my school teachers smoked. I have never known any one of these people to lose a finger or toe, let alone a leg, due to smoking. If such a fate were true, we should see at least a few smokers with missing fingers.
This no-smoking message is lost on me.
