Members of U.S. Sen. Al Franken’s staff will discuss the Senate version of the new farm bill at 11 a.m. today in Room 406 of the Government Services Center, 320 W. Second St. in Duluth.

Franken notes that the farm bill being debated in the Senate will have a direct impact not just on farmers but also thousands of students, seniors and families in the Northland. Nearly 75 percent of the billions of dollars in federal farm bill funding each year goes toward food and nutrition programs like school meals and hunger assistance, often called food stamps.

“The farm bill’s impact will be felt not only in the state’s rural areas, but also by hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans living in urban and suburban areas,” Franken’s office said in announcing the Duluth session.
