Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra announces 2012-13 season

The Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra’s 2012-13 season will include the final performances with music director Markand Thakar, a preview of his successor and pops concerts with cinematic themes.

The Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra’s 2012-13 season will include the final performances with music director Markand Thakar, a preview of his successor and pops concerts with cinematic themes.

The season opens Sept. 22 with a classical concert including guest narrator Henry Fogel and music by composers Golijov, Copeland and Tchaikovsky.

Classical concerts

  • Oct. 13: Ravel, Barber, Wagner, Debussy with guest pianist William Wolfram.

  • Nov. 17: Program TBA, with new DSSO conductor and the DSSO chorus performing Mendelssohn.

  • Jan. 19: Leshnoff, DSSO Youth Symphony, Rachmaninoff and conductor’s choice.

  • March 9: Stravinsky, Brahms, Mendelssohn, including guest violinist Madeline Adkins.

  • April 20: Berlioz and Brahms, with guest viola player Victoria Chiang.

  • May 18: Beethoven, featuring Erin Aldridge as soloist.

    Pops concerts

  • Nov. 3: Alfred Hitchcock Presents, a night of Hitchcock film scenes with music by the DSSO.

  • Feb. 9: A Night At the Movies includes great loves of silver screen, with classic scenes from Hollywood’s golden age with orchestral accompaniment.

  • May 4: James Bond, features the return of Jeans ’n Classics and James Bond movie clips.
