Sunday, Jan. 31

Performances scheduled for “The Last Dance of Dr. Disco,” an interactive murder mystery starring Jody Kujawa at Midi Change of Pace Dinner Theater in the Fitger’s complex: at 7 p.m. Feb. 5-6, 12-13 and at 1 p.m. Jan. 31 and Feb. 7, 14. The Duluth Figure Skating Club will host the 29th Northland Figure Skating Competition Jan. 28-31 at the DECC. The event is free and open to the public, but donations will be collected to help the relief effort in Haiti. More than 500 skaters will compete. Full details TBA.

The Bayfront Park outdoor ice rink is open for skating, and the Bayfront Family Center will be staffed daily from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturdays and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Monday, Feb. 1

Peace Cabaret 2, a Mississippi Civil Rights Project fundraiser, will be held at 7 p.m. at The Venue at Mohaupt Block, 2024 W. Superior St. There will be music, performances and a documentary photography exhibition. Call 525-3037 for complete details.

Artists from the Petrozavodsk Conservatory in Russia will perform at 7:30 p.m. at UMD’s Weber Music Hall. Cost is $19 for adults, $17 for seniors and $5 for students.

Tuesday, Feb. 2

The Parker Quartet will perform at 7:30 p.m. at Mitchell Auditorium on the St. Scholastica campus. Cost is $17 for adults ($15 for Minnesota Public Radio members) and $5 for students.

The Autism Association of Northern Minnesota will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Kenwood Edison Charter School, 1750 Kenwood Ave.

The Score Bar hosts salsa dancing every Tuesday night. Free dance lessons kick off the night from 7 to 8, followed by open dancing until

midnight.

The Maxi Childs Trio performs at 7 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Black Water Lounge, 231 E. Superior St.

La Leche League, a mother-to-mother support group for nursing mothers, will meet at 6:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church (The Coppertop). This month’s topic is “The Family and the Breastfed Baby.” Babies and children welcome. Lending library available. Call 341-8369.

Wednesday, Feb. 3

The Tisdales will play at 10 p.m. at Pizza Luce. Dead Man Winter, featuring Dave Simonett from Trampled by Turtles, is also on the bill. Cost is $8.

Cities Never Sleep will perform at 9 p.m. at UMD Rafters. The King and the Thief is also on the bill. Cost is $5 (free to UMD students).

Udac’s third annual Walk a Mile in Our Shoes treadmill walkathon will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Raise pledges and walk for 30 minutes at 500 E. 10th St. to help out people with disabilities. Full details online at www.udac.org.

Thursday, Feb. 4

A grand reopening party for Renegade Theater Company, formerly Renegade Comedy Theatre, will be held at 6 p.m. at Teatro Zuccone, 222 E. Superior St. Food will be provided by Zeitgeist Arts Café, and there will be a silent auction. At 8 p.m. RTC’s latest production, “The Sparrow,” will be staged. The play, directed by Katy Helbacka and starring Jenna Kase, will also be staged at 8 p.m. Feb. 5-6, 11-13 and 18-20. Cost is $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors.

Friday, Feb. 5

As part of the free Warner Reading Series, Pulitzer Prize-nominated poet Andrew Hudgins will appear at 7:30 p.m. at Somers Lounge on the College of St. Scholastica campus.

Lake Superior Singles Fellowship, a non-denominational singles group supported by the United Presbyterian Church, will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the London Road Blackwoods for dinner.

Saturday, Feb. 6

Lisa Casperson’s art will be on display at Bixby’s Bagels (in the Mount Royal Shopping Center) through Jan. 31.

“The Atomic Edge: Design in Print Imagery, 1940s-1960s” will be on display through March 14 at UMD’s Tweed Museum of Art. Free.

The St. Louis County Historical Society exhibit “Preserving the Old Country: The Experiences of Croatians, Serbians and Slovenians in St. Louis County” opens Feb. 1 at the Depot and runs through March 16.

Paintings by David Ericson and Gilbert Munger will be on display through March 31 at the Depot in the Fesler Hallway.

“Form & Surface: Selections from the Glenn C. Nelson Collection” will be on display through Nov. 7 at UMD’s Tweed Museum of Art.
