The St. Louis County Health Department recently received a delivery of H1N1 flu vaccine and has scheduled clinics at community sites in Hibbing, Virginia, Ely, Cook, Hermantown and Duluth.

The vaccines are free and available for children ages 6 months to 9 years, slightly older than the guidelines followed by other clinics.

St. Louis County had expected more than 30,000 doses and planned to hold clinics in all schools across the county. But the county found out it would receive only 3,100 doses and switched its plans.

Schools are giving notices to children to bring home to their parents this week informing them of the clinics.

Guy Peterson, public health director for the county, said the county’s goal is to reach as many school-age children as possible.

“We fully expect another wave of H1N1 later this winter, along with the seasonal flu,” Peterson said. “If you can access the vaccine, you still should.”
