Wisconsin governor signs education bills, wants fed stimulus

Among the bills are measures that allow student test scores to factor into teacher evaluations and state education officials to share student performance data with Wisconsin colleges.

By: Associated Press,

MADISON — Gov. Jim Doyle has signed a series of education reform bills designed to help Wisconsin compete for federal stimulus money.

Among the bills are measures that allow student test scores to factor into teacher evaluations and state education officials to share student performance data with Wisconsin colleges.

State officials say Wisconsin had to make the changes to be eligible to compete for a portion of $4.5 billion in federal Race to the Top education grants.

Doyle signed the measures into law at Wright Middle School, a Madison charter school. President Barack Obama visited the school last week to tout Race to the Top.
