Early indications suggest a bacterial infection could have played a role in the death of Duluth teacher Lynn Bergquist.
According to Kim Bergquist, husband of the Laura MacArthur Elementary teacher, the county medical examiner said it looked as though a bacterial infection in her lungs could have caused her unexpected death Friday.
“The results are still preliminary so there might have been other complications, but that is what they’re thinking at this point,” Kim Bergquist said.
The sudden nature of Bergquist’s death sparked rumors that she might have been sick with the H1N1 virus, but Kim Bergquist said the medical examiner’s initial assessment indicates she was not.
The couple, who lived on an area lake with their three dogs, married in 1991. Bergquist said his wife’s death still is sinking in.
“It’s touch-and-go right now. You just get numb,” he said.
“She was very devoted to her school and to her dogs, and she loved taking pictures,” Kim Bergquist said. “She just always had the camera handy whenever we went anywhere.”
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Concordia Lutheran Church.
