Grand re-opening

Gethsemane Covenant is hosting a grand re-opening on Sunday, June 14, to celebrate the completion of a building project. (The church is now handicap accessible.) The community is invited to come at 9:30 a.m. for worship, a dedication ceremony and tours. Two worship teams will provide music. Rev. Jim Fretheim, superintendent of the Northwest Conference, will bring the message and a brunch will follow the service.

Christ Lutheran VBS

Christ Lutheran Church, 2415 Ensign St., will have Vacation Bible School from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. This year’s theme will be “Son Rock Kids Camp” and is open to those ages 3 through grade six. Kids will enjoy a light campfire supper, followed by skits, campfire songs, crafts and more. Call 624-2003 to register.

Swedish Midsummer

Swedish Midsummer will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 45th Avenue East and Colorado Street.

Activities begin with women and girls making flower wreaths for their hair (everyone is welcome to paint a dala horse ornament under the direction of Alison Aune, professor of art at UMD and folk artist). At 2 p.m. Varsk Spelman — comprised of a mother and her three children who play a variety of musical instruments — will perform. Following their performance they will lead everyone outdoors to the decorated maypole and provide music for everyone to dance and sing to. For more information call 525-4274.
