Church of Christ looking for homes to paint

High school youth with adult supervision will again paint several houses in the Duluth area at almost no cost to the homeowners through a program organized by the East Duluth Church of Christ.

The program is designed to help the elderly, handicapped, single-parent families or anyone else who is unable to accomplish this work with their own resources. Labor and tools are provided free of charge — it is requested the homeowner buy the paint, if possible.

The house must be occupant-owned and only one story high.

Over the past 15 years, young people working in the program have painted more than 110 homes. It gives them an opportunity to express their faith by being helpful.

A limited number of houses can be painted this summer. Homes are selected based upon appropriateness for this age group. For more information or to apply, call the church at 525-5187. Please leave your name, address and telephone number.

Haiti Worthy Cause concert at Chester Park UMC

The Haiti Worthy Cause concert and program starts at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 31, followed by a 4:30 p.m. Haitian dinner at Chester Park United Methodist Church, 819 N. 18th Ave. E. in Duluth.

Performers include the Echoes of Peace Choir directed by Sara Thomsen, vocal soloist Kate Kulas, storyteller Elizabeth Nordell and many others.

A free-will offering benefits the Kako Foundation, which helps underprivileged students study music.
