Veterans’ Memorial Hall seeks KIA/MIA photos for exhibit

Veterans’ Memorial Hall needs your help! The organization is asking the residents of St. Louis County for photos of any loved ones who have fallen while serving our country in the military for the upcoming exhibit "Generations of Service."

The exhibit will open this summer. Its purpose is to provide helpful and historical information to the public on St. Louis County veterans who have served in any war, from 1861 to the present. The exhibit will include artifacts such as an 1818 flag received during the Civil War to a combat uniform from Iraq. In addition, it will feature stories and photographs highlighting the many men and women who have served our country so proudly.

The donated photos, accompanied with a list of their names, will be in a section of the exhibit that is dedicated to soldiers who have died in combat or who were designated "missing in action." This list will include all KIA/MIA St. Louis County soldiers from all U.S. wars, starting with the Civil War. The photos will be digitally scanned to minimize damage to their original conditions. The photos that are sent in for exhibit use will then, depending on the donor’s choice, be kept as a part of VMH's permanent collection or returned as soon as possible.

The Veterans’ Memorial Hall was established in 1909 and is a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society. It is the mission of Veterans’ Memorial Hall to preserve and collect veterans’ artifacts and to educate the general public about the history of veterans from northeastern Minnesota.
