PREP REPORT: Duluth East top Duluth Central in boys basketball

Dyami Starks scored 25 points and freshman Johnny Woodard added 17 as Duluth East defeated Duluth Central 80-58 in a high school boys basketball nonconference game Tuesday night at East.

Carl Bowman (14) and Nick Toland (10) also reached double figures for the Greyhounds (3-3), who led 41-31 at halftime. Starks and Woodard combined to make seven 3-pointers.

Senior guard Montclair Chapman led the Trojans with 27 points, outscoring his younger brother, East guard Montel, by 20.

CLOQUET 68, HERMANTOWN 44

Chad Calcaterra poured in 20 points to lead the host Lumberjacks to the Lake Superior Conference victory.

Cloquet (2-4, 2-0) scored 39 points in the second half to put the game away.

Tom Couture’s 16 points led the Hawks (2-4, 1-3).

MOOSE LAKE-WILLOW RIVER 76, TWO HARBORS 48

Joe Bohaty scored 21 points as the Rebels handed the host Agates their first loss this season.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

GRAND RAPIDS 49, DULUTH EAST 43

Brynn Joki scored 16 points and the host Thunderhawks overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to win the nonconference game.

SUPERIOR 57, DULUTH DENFELD 44

Bettye Jo Nelson had a game-high 20 points to lead the visiting Spartans to the LSC victory.

Taylor Kosey added 14 for Superior, which trailed by three points at halftime.

HERMANTOWN 53, CLOQUET 37

Laura Kesti’s 15 points and a stifling second-half defense that held the Lumberjacks to two field goals lifted the host Hawks to the LSC win.

Hermantown (6-2, 5-0) stayed atop the conference with the victory.

PROCTOR 53, MOOSE LAKE-WILLOW RIVER 41

Skyla Robertson totaled 22 points to lead the host Rails to the nonconference win.

BOYS HOCKEY

DULUTH EAST 4, MOORHEAD 0

Matt Cooper registered 37 saves for his second straight shutout and fifth of the season as the Greyhounds won at Moorhead.

Max Tardy scored once and assisted on two other goals for third-ranked East (6-0-1).

CLOQUET-ESKO-CARLTON 4, DULUTH CENTRAL 1

Corbin Morse scored twice as the host Lumberjacks (3-6-1, 2-0) snapped a four-game losing streak but remained undefeated in the LSC.

PRINCETON 6, PROCTOR 5, OT

Sawyer Springman scored the winning goal 2:09 into overtime as the Tigers won at Proctor.

Proctor scored four goals in the second period to tie the game at 4.

HIBBING 8, TWO HARBORS 2

Aaron Jamnick scored two goals each in the second and third periods for his second four-goal game as the visiting Bluejackets won the nonconference game.

Jamnick has 17 goals this season for Hibbing (5-3).

GIRLS HOCKEY

PROCTOR-HERMANTOWN-MARSHALL 19, SUPERIOR 0

Emma Stauber scored four of the Mirage’s 10 first-period goals in the LSC win at Hermantown Arena.

Stauber added two assists for a six-point night while teammates Steph Strapple and Sam Downey each had five points.
