Column: Honoring a Civil War veteran — and a prophecy fulfilled

The spirit of Veterans Day came upon me a little early this year — Aug. 18 at 11 a.m., to be exact. At that moment I was mingling with about 30 relatives in the middle of a country cemetery under a blissful, open sky.
