Reader’s view: Methadone treatment is a medical necessity

It’s difficult to reconcile the News Tribune’s series of articles damning the outcomes of methadone-maintenance treatment, considering the consistent judgment of the highest drug-treatment authorities in the U.S. and academic and clinical leaders around the world (about 1 million patients receive maintenance in more than 70 countries).
