And you wonder why the cost of medical care keeps rising. When you let a greedy union like the Steelworkers in to a workplace, wages get out of control. I hope they strike and I hope they get replaced by nurses and workers that actually appreciate having a job. The level of ungratefulness of this group of people is astounding. When will people realize that unions aren't supportive of the worker.....they're just out there extorting businesses and getting their mafioso-style tribute. It makes me sick. The best part of what is to come will be the unions trying the anti-business angle against SMDC--which is a non-profit organization.

This union is not serving it's people well. Many in this Union do not want to strike. In these days of high unemployment, layoffs, cutbacks and job shortages, why would anyone vote to strike? While the management may be taking unfair liberties, that is not the question. The questions are: are these people making a good wage especially compared to the average in Duluth? Do they have good benefits? Do they like or appreciate their jobs? If the answer is yes, then it really doesn't matter if some exec got a bonus, - So forego the raise for a year, at least you will be working, which is more than many can say right now.

sorry my last comment was entered before i was done! So anyway, almost anyone on this contract could be outsourced. That is what my beef is all about. Too bad everyone doesn't know all of the reasons behind this intent to strike.

What you haven't heard about is all of the outsourcing that is going to happen. You also haven't heard that this contract is the first contract that is negotiating with the "negotiators" so they are trying to use this contract as a precedent. I personally am not "picketing" because of the wage freeze, I could care less, BUT I will not take away someone's wages completely because of the outsourcing. If that is allowed, who's job is safe? They could outsource ALMOST

What planet are these folks coming from, thousands out of work and without health insurance and they have the guts to picket, to complain about a zero increase in wages for one year. Do not doubt the resolve of the management at SMDC and if you do doubt the resolve, do so at your own peril.
