...unfortunately the parade was our last. It was marked by the usual rudeness of humanity. Granted the crowds were large and expected but the rude nature of these people never ceases to amaze me. As we backed up to the building wall on Superior St to allow passage of walkers and parents with strollers, 'paraders' gathered in front of us, some with children who were hoisted onto shoulders regardless of who was behind them. Soon the walkers and parents with strollers were left to fend for themselves. The youth with their cell phones and cigarettes were barking orders for others to get out of their way as they were coming through. We left.

The parade was great as usual, but also as usual, Duluth people do not know how to watch a parade and the Duluth city officials do nothing to make any parade rules/ettiquette. In front of us the peope had encroached so far out into the street that the bands came by just about touching shoulders to get through the narrow opening. It's the same thing every year. Those of us standing back on the side walk or curb could barely see the parade because the parade was not allowed to open up and perform. If people would only understand what a beautiful site it is to see a parade coming down the entire width of Superior Street and if the police would patrol up and down to keep the people back, it would make the event much more enjoyable and really something to see. On the Iron Range, where parades in the summer are abundant, the police go up and down the street in small ATV's to keep the people back where necessary or they just walk or ride bikes up and down the side lines. But, I will say, in most cases people on the Iron Range just plain have better parade ettiquette and know how much better it is to watch a full parade instead of a squashed group of kids trying to dance or perform without adequate space. Everyone loses here.....the participants and the viewers.

Does anyone know if they are going to replay this on TV this weekend?

Fine parade and fine weather to go with it. Just like being in Florida. But the parade has to keep on moving.

The parade was awesome. I was a child when it first started and I do remember standing there in the 50's bubbling with excitement, but wishing it was longer. Took my son in the 70's, hated the weather, loved the parade. Now I enjoy it on TV. I can't believe that 2 bands came from so far away for this. I can see that it will get bigger and better in the future.
