Adam S. You are wrong, please do not speak for the rest of us. I agree with Ed M.. It is one thing to use this plant for medicinal purposes, in a controlled enviroment, under the supervision of a doctor's care. But you can not sit here and tell me that if this crap is legalized, that that will be the only thing it is used for! And it is a gateway drug, plain and simple and that has been proven time and time again. And sdoe, I'd like to know how old you are? I am guessing you haven't met many meth heads or crack heads to be able to ask "what is the first drug you ever tried". Get real people, these idiots weren't growing this stuff because they want to give it to help someone in pain! And did you read the part about two children and meth also being found? I suppose all you supporters think that is ok too, right?

I'm 23 and I agree with Ed's comments. Easy on the generalizations. Julie A, you can't really think that these people were growing marijuana so that they could HELP PEOPLE who have "medical reasons" for needing it. Come on. They sell the drugs to make money. Illegally. Here's an idea-- GO GET A JOB. Make some money the respectable, old-fashioned way.

"It is a gateway drug that nearly inevitably leads to crack, meth, cocaine and heroin use" Seriously, Ed? Most pot smokers I know are nowhere NEAR even thinking about firing up a crack pipe. Cite us some references, Ed..

I personally don't believe pot is a "gateway", to other drugs. I would like to see it legalized, use the tax revenues as they do in tobacco. Tobacco is a gateway to lung cancer, people don't seem to get in an uproar when tobacco is discussed.

Ed, I take great exception to your characterization of marijuana as a gateway drug which "nearly inevitably leads to crack and meth." An even cursory look at the percentage of marijuana users versus the percentage of crack and meth users betrays the naivete of your comment. Further, as someone with multiple sclerosis, for which there is no cure or way to eliminate, I can say that there are numerous symptoms associated with MS that marijuana can alleviate, including tremors, nausea, pain, muscle spasticity, and many others. For many, prescription drugs which claim to alleviate these symptoms are either ineffective or carry nasty side-effects--and not to mention, have the tendency to drive people into medical-related bankruptcy. Pharmaceutical companies who wish to monopolize the treatment process have a huge vested interest in keeping marijuana illegal--even for medical purposes. While you're entitled to your opinion, as goes the saying, you aren't entitled to your facts. Do your research, and we can have another chat about this then.

As a cancer survivor and recipient of radiation, chemo and morphine, I can tell you that they have medications that stem most of the pain of cancer recovery. For that matter, they can sythensize the active ingredient in pot (THC) and prescribe it. The reasons not to legalize marijuana are simple. It is a gateway drug that nearly inevitably leads to crack, meth, cocaine and heroin use. Which in turn ruins lives, drives crime by users needing burglarized and stolen items to sell in supporting their addiction. Ruinous drug use is an epedemic now. If legalized, it will expand to even greater damage.
