Man, I'm really disappointed to see the ignorance that still exists amongst some people. Proven gateway drug? Please, show me that proof.

Wow, I didn't think there was anyone left who is so ignorant as to believe the ols school reefer madness b.s. (it truly is madness). Marijauna doesn't make you "out there" and it's not an inevitable gateway drug. The problem here is that they were running a large growing operation and when you do that, you're gambling - period. The sad part is that their gambling affected the well-being of children. Anyone growing like that better be operating in a matter so as to only risk their own life and liberty, not others'.

Julie B, what you've got to understand is a simple economics equation: in our globalized society, where there is demand, there is supply, period. That applies to xBox 360s, and it also applies to illegal drugs. Why? Because where there is demand and little supply, tons of money is to be made. How do we stop this illegal underground trade? Well, that's simple. Legalize it. Supply will increase, thus the incentive for illegal growing will decrease, and those people you despise so much will have to "get a real, old fashioned job," or whatever. All illegalization does is reduce supply, making those who do happen to grow it or get it all that much richer. How and when did the famous gangster Al Capone make his money and get his power? Bootlegging alcohol during prohibition. How many gangsters are out there these days bootlegging booze? Not too many, because they had to get a real job.

I'm not a twenty-something know-it-all so I probably don't get an opinion, but about ninety percent of the people I know who have smoked grass since the seventies are pretty "out there". Not seriously disfunctional, but definitely it has taken a toll. They won't admit this, cause they don't realize it:) In any case, it's illegal and that's the fact, Jack:)

My concern is more about the children in the house and the chemicals used to help grow the good stuff! A non gateway drug by the way you fools! Alcohol is more of a gateway drug than than marijuana so get away from your Reefer Madness mentality. The only thing you risk when getting high is getting hungry! Ok, your lungs pay a price too but you could use it as butter and cook with it instead if you choose. It's been proven that long term memory is not affected, you can still function as a normal "productive" citizen, and the medical benefactors are many for many. Some of you are so quick to eat pills by the fistful just because a company creates said pills and then they get prescribed by our doctors and come in that little orange bottle that just makes it all seem so authentic and legit. We know the side effects of marijuana or the lack there of! Do you know the many side and long term effects of what you toss down your throat? Every other week there is another "prescribed" pill/med that is pulled because of harmful side effects or death. When is the last time you heard of someone who had a failing kidney, lost eye sight, sores, heart problems, or even died because of marijuana?

The matter at hand is that it is illegal to grow marijuana...all other considerstions are off the table. These folks were very likely growing the material to sell it, not to provide it to pharmacutical firms.

If you are getting high, you are abusing whatever substance you are using to do so. Articles like this always bring out the abuser to push their pro-use/abuse agenda. Sad sad sad.

Beer is a gateway drug. Ask anyone who has fired up a crack pipe or used meth if they drank beer before using drugs, and my guess the answer would be yes. And which is the more addictive and harmful drug - pot or alcohol? Hands down the booze. Not to defend the people who were arrested - using meth and having kids around should equal a first class ticket to the clink, and the kids should be raised by someone else now.
